Centennial Children Music Competition Moscow 20 - 21 March 2005 This is the third time that Rotary Club of Moscow International organizes a Music Competition for young musicians, ages 8 -12, particularly gifted and talented in one of the following: Piano, Arch instruments, Wind instrument. This year, RCMI decided to celebrate the Rotary Centennial by organizing a Special Event, the Rotary Centennial Children Music Competition. The Candidates This year 52 candidates were registered by different Rotary Clubs in the Russian Federation, Bielorussia, Armenia, Moldavia, Ucraina and Azerbaidjan. Pietroburgo Lubyantzeva Evgenia, age 11, S. Pietroburgo Violloncellist Kobekina Anastasia, age 10, Ekaterinburg Flutists Kovaleva Margarita, age 12, Moscow Nardinov Timur, age 12, Cheboksary (Est di Moscow) Oboist Kobylsky Ivan, age 12, Moscow Tokarev Stanislav, age 11, Moscow Trumpet Eremin Ivan, age 12, Moscow Clarinettist Arutyunyan Narek, age 12, Moscow All qualifiers were invited to attend the Semifinals. Saturday, 19 March 2005 19:00 - Draw of playing order in Semifinals Irina Prokofieva, professional organizer of music competitions, assisted RCMI in presenting the event to the children, their parents and teachers who attended the meeting at the Tchaikovsky Cultural Centre. Leonardo de Angelis, Past President of Rotary Club of Moscow International, welcomed all attendees and talked about Rotary and its Centennial. He also presented RCMI and it's music project. This was followed by inviting each child to draw a tag which had a number written on the back. This number represent the playing order at Semifinals. Unfortunatly, Eleonora Orobinskaya, pianist from Rostov-on-Don had fallen ill and could not attend the event. The number of finalists would therefore only be 19. Sunday 20 march 2005 14:00 - Semifinals 10:00 all Semifinalists with parents and teachers reach the V. I. Muradeli Music School in order to attend rehearsals. 14:00 the Semifinals began. Each candidates was allowed a of 20 minute presentation in front of the Jury. The Jury members were: Mikhail Khokhlov, Director of Gnesin Music School (Moscow) and Conductor, Aleksandr Yakupov, Director of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Moscow, Sergey Sapozhnikov, President of the Assembly of Arts of Moscow; Aleksey Nasedkin, Professor of music at the Tchaikovsky Conservator, Moscow Aleksandr Skulsky, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Nizhny Novgorod Philarmonic Symphony Orchestra, Leonardo de Angelis, Past President of Rotary Club of Moscow International; Zsuzsa Barna, Chairwoman of Rotary Centennial Committee, RCMI; Alberto Allegretti, Member of Rotary Club of Moscow International. Finalist selection 21.00. The Jury had eventually selected the following Finalists: Piano - Belyavsky Sergey, age 11, sponsored by RCMI; Violin - Smirnov Dmitri, age 10, sponsored by Rotary Club of With Nights, S. Petersburg; - Lubyantzeva Evgenia, age 11, S. Petersburg, but sponsored by Rotary Club of St. Petersburg; - Oleseyuk Alexander, age 11, sponsored by Rotary Club of Kiev (Ukraina); - Benyumova Rimma, age 11, sponsored by Rotary Club of Krasnoyarsk; Violoncell - Kobekina Anastasia, age 10, sponsored by Rotary Club of Ekaterinburg; Flute - Nardinov Timur, age 11, from Tcheboksary (Est of Nizhny Novgorod), sponsored by RCMI; Clarinette - Arutyunyan Narek, age 12, sponsored by RCMI. Monday 21 march 2005 16:00 - Finals 14:00. The eight finalists with parents and teachers reach the Residence of the Ambassador of France for rehearsals. 16:20. All members of Jury and guests have assembled at the Residence, and the finals can begin. More than 120 persons are present to participate at this great event. The President of Jury is Natalia Gutman, the world famous violoncellist and former pupil of Maestro S. Rostropovitch. Irina Prokofieva, briefly announced the event and gave the floor to Monsieur Bertonet, First Councillor of the Embassy of France, who expresses his regret for the absence of H. E. Jean Cadet, the Ambassador who, due to a serious a accident to his wife, urgently had to travel to Paris. Mr. Bertonet welcomed all persons attending the event. PP Leonardo de Angelis specially thanked the Ambassador of France, the sponsors that contributed to the event, all members of Rotary Club of Moscow International who participated in organizing the Competition and all others presents. Hethen wished all Finalists good luck with their performance. Irina Prokofieva presented each of the 8 finalists and their music pieces. All musician then subsequently played at a high level until 19:15. The Jury convened and after 45 minutes the following results of competition were annonced by Natalia Gutman and Leonardo de Angelis: Special prize "Rotary Centennial Scholarship", RUR100.000 ($ 3.650) *: Narek Arutyunyan (Moscow) - clarinet First prize, RUR 70.000 ($ 2.555) : Sergey Belyavsky (Moscow) - piano Second prize, RUR 50.000 ($ 1.825): Dmitri Smirnov (St. Petersburg) - violin Third prize, RUR 30.000 ($ 1.095): Rimma Benyumova (Krasnoyarsk) - violin Fourth prize The 4th prize is delivered to the remaining four finalists who each receive RUR 10.000 RUR ($ 365). Fifth Prize Each of the other 11 children receives the 5th prize, RUR 6.000 ($ 220). All the 19 children receive hats and special t-shirts with the logo of RCMI and logo of the event printed on. Mme Natalia Gutman, Mme Bertonet, the winners and all ladies of staff were presented with flowers. This was followed by PP Leonardo inducting, as Honourary Members of Rotary Club of Moscow International the following: Natalia Gutman, for her deep engagement for the success of the competition; Seppo Remes, for his very generous donation of $100.000 to RCMI to help children in need, in particular orphans and children affected by terrible diseases. PP Leonardo presented both new Honourary Members with a Rotary pin and a plate with a record of their engagement. A delightful buffet-dinner followed, kindly offered by the H. E. the Ambassador of France, until 22:00. * Because RCMI wishes to maintain a special relationship with the major winner, the Rotary Centennial Sholarship will be delivered in three installments, the first and the second this year, the third on September 2006.
